All That Remains...

S0uth Yorkshire was once home to a great number of collieries.

Only one mine is left working (Hatfield) although that too is currently threatened with closure.

Abandoned mine sites are often commemorated with a winding wheel from the pit head and a name plate.

This particular one shows the opening and closing dates with the name. There is also a small plaque with a very brief history - enlarged here to include in the picture.
