Old Whitehaven

A minimalist photograph of the 19th century West Pier at Whitehaven, Cumbria. Once the busiest port in Britain (in tonnage per year), originally a Roman port, Whitehaven has had a long decline and recently a huge facelift and become a fashionable marina port. I am thinking of berthing my yacht there, but must first receive the yacht as a gift!

The Old Pier is still beautiful in Devonian Sandstone, and is from the 18th century. Since we lived a few miles away, a number of years ago, the whole town has been improved hugely. Today I took a good number of pictures but chose this one -- simple, and hardly alluring, but it calls out to me, a beached old sailor...
