Running on Empty

Today we were marshalling at the Brathay Windermere Marathon. This was the tenth of ten marathons in ten days for a small group of runners, with the rest doing 'only ' one. It was hot hard thirsty work. I think the runners felt the same too.

I spoke to a young man who had terminal Bowel cancer. He was aiming to do six marathons in six months. We were astonished at his bravery and determination. He said there are many in his situation who are unable to run so he felt it was just something he wanted to do.He was raising money for bowel cancer charities.

The entry fees and most sponsorship goes towards the Brathay trust which helps vulnerable and disadvantaged young people. It was very inspirational to meet such a great bunch of people.

This is the refreshments at the finish!
