Sunday

I started pottering around in the garden pretty early this morning and at that time the sunlight just catches the pergola. The path to the shed was overgrown, in fact in places it was invisible so I cut back soft growth, dug out weeds, hacked back some brambles that seemed to be deliberately attacking me each time I went up and down.

During the day, which got hotter and hotter, we managed to organise the shed so we could clear the hall of the boxes of beer and wine left over from the wedding, clear the patio of many of the pots which were looking pretty sorry for themselves, and even plant out some of the bedding plants which have been needing dealing with

Actually not too arduous but a major improvement. Down the garden, the rose "Paul's Himalayan Musk" (is that the best rose name ever?) has the first dozen flowers out and about a thousand buds about to come out. Once that is over I'm going to cut back some of the fronds to the base and really try to train it along the fence as it has taken over what feels like about a quarter of the garden
