Between fen and mountains

Hot springs

Today's walk took us around Fondpedrouse, Prats Balaguer and the hot springs in the woods. As we set off I heard the tooting of the famous little yellow train across the valley. We walked past the hot baths at St Thomas. The open air pools are warm (the water has to be cooled) and therapeutic. I prefer to visit in winter when the snow is on the ground and the air is full of steam. At Prats Balaguer, someone has kindly installed a library in the wash house. We then walked on to the hot springs in the woods. A few people went skinny dipping but I had not brought my towel and preferred a siesta after the obligatory birthday aperitifs. We climbed back down to Fontpedrouse down a very steep path next to the hydro electric pipe. There were plenty of wildflowers still out including some wild narcissi but then we were around 1200 metres.
