The start of six a day.

This was taken at 08.34 and 36 seconds this morning and is the first train of the day from Glasgow arriving in Oban Station bang on time.

I was there not because I was catching the train but because today was the start of the new timetable that doubles the frequency of trains on the line to six a day .

This has been a long held objective by the people of the area and with the work of Hi-Trans, the Scottish Government, Transport Scotland and Argyll & Bute Council it has now been achieved.

I was invited to meet this first train with a group of others and then to say a word or two at a breakfast reception across the road in the Caledonian Hotel.

It was a good start to a busy day that has not finished yet as I am about to go to the Colintraive & Glendaruel Community Council to hear about a new hydro scheme that the Bute Estates wants to build but about which the community has not yet been consulted.
