What did I see today...?

All Hail the King

After a couple of weeks wait it was finally time to head to White Hart Lane with Dad for Ledley King's testimonial match. The travel was a bit difficult (instead of meeting at the station we finally met up in our seats at the stadium) but it was worth it to be there.

While there was no element of real competition (yes, there were runs and skill, but no one was really trying too hard) the score still ended up 6-3 to Ledley's Guest XI with the first goal coming from the King himself (two goals from Sheringham and a Saha hat-trick completed the haul).

It was nice to see everyone playing along in various silly ways - Ginola still has magnificent hair and was particularly adept at diving, Davids' dancing was good but it was even better watching Kaboul pick him up and carry him into the penalty area when he got tired out (how's that for sportsmanship?) The officials got involved as well, with one linesman letting a fan run the lines and referee Howard Webb taking the ball on a run, only to be fouled by Holtby, awarding himself a free kick in the process.

At the end of the night the whole stadium stood up and cheered for King, and though it was a long two hour trip back to Cambridge I just delved into match program the whole way.
