Drinker Moth caterpillar

Another lovely walk this evening - along the coastal path and home along the high-banked, back lanes, where it was snail party-time. We really had to watch our step not to crush any. Spotted a pheasant's feather on the road, and then another, and then ... well, clearly Mr Fox had pheasant for supper last night! Then we spotted a lone duck having a thorough preening session beside a puddle in a field of cows.

Of the oodles of photos I took, I've gone for this caterpillar close-up as I'm pleased to have been able to identify it. Apparently, drinker moths are fairly common in the south and gain their name from their habit of drinking drops of dew. Seems odd, really, as surely all creatures need to drink, and where better for any caterpillar to source their liquid? But there we have it!
