Kata Tjuta (the Olga's)

Kata Tjuta ( the Olga's) in Ayres a Rock competes with Uluru as a major attraction for tourists and walkers, some even say it is more beautiful. It is a 45km drive from Yulara and today we found it provided a fantastic day of exploring and walking.

Kata Tjuta has 36 steep domes. The formation extends 6 km into the ground and is the remains of erosion that began more than 500 million years ago. The area is sacred under aboriginal men's law and many stories of the area are not known to uninitiated men.

Today was special for us as some years ago we purchased a painting by a well known Western Australian artist Jacinda Bayne of this very scene. It hangs in our den and it was somewhat spooky to see its beauty in real life earlier today
