Intermission at Bridgewater Hall

Half-time at the concert we attended at Bridgewater Hall, with the larger string instruments set aside while the musicians file off for a short break. Beautiful concert, this time all British (Elgar and Vaughan Williams), with ringside seats at a stunningly cheap £10 apiece. What was sad was the audience mix. Manchester is a young, vibrant, cosmopolitan city yet the audience was in the most part of pensionable age, conservative in appearance and almost exclusively white. Two cities?
