Holding back the years............

I visited an old friend today, who had lost her husband a few years ago.
We had drifted apart and never made the effort to get back in touch.
I turned up unannounced , not knowing how she would react. I was invited in and we drank tea and made polite conversation. Then we talked about her husband, how he had fought , how he had died, how he was only 44. We had tears, but we laughed too. We talked about the daft things we had done, the places we had been, the silly things from way back when.
She has texted me tonight to say how good it was to talk, and we must do it again soon............I feel the same way too.
