litl hikes

reflections at Rydal Water

With showers forecast I decided to get out early. There was blue sky and no sign of any threatening clouds. A lovely walk to Rydal Water and up to the cave. A pair of wellies would have been useful both at the lakeside (to get a better angle for photos) and in the cave.

A grey wagtail was flying in and out of the cave and on the lake the Canada Geese were just setting off from the shore with their fluffy little goslings (all 26 of them). I was amazed at the variety of wild flowers growing at the side of the Under Loughrigg road, including a few that I rarely see. Must get the flower book out and see if my identifications are right.

Weather forecast was wrong. We only had one shower late afternoon.
