Sally And The Pill Pocket

Sally is a funny one. Every day she has to take a pill to help her fight leukaemia. If you just try to hide the medicine in her food, she will masterfully detect it, and eat around the pill, leaving it in solitary splendour at the center of a perfectly clean dish.

So, for the past eight months, we have been hiding the offending object inside a chicken flavoured "Pill Pocket". She has eagerly looked forward to receiving these "treats", but lately she's been refusing to accept them. Instead, she will take the Pill Pocket and carry it in her mouth to a location she deems suitably inaccessible to humans. There she will drop it and sit next to it, guarding it, but not eating it. If you attempt to take it away, she will warn you off with a deep, low growl. Here she is, under the coffee table outside on the deck, giving me the Evil Eye. (We have now learned to sneak the pill to her in a piece of cheese ... so far she hasn't noticed what's hidden in it!)
