Evening barbecue on Wembury Beach

Finally at the very end of the bank holiday weekend the sun came out and families ventured down to the beach with disposable barbecues.
In the background you can see the island known as the Mewstone, once inhabited by the family of a man sentenced to transportation in 1744, ( they spent seven years on this tiny rock!)
It would certainly have been a cheaper alternative than sending them to Australia!
It is now a bird reserve owned by the national trust
