~Memorial Day~

The festival of Flags began in 1965 with 48 flags that were donated to honor military service veterans who died and were interred at Greenacres Memorial Park. The Avenue of Flags, which remains on view throughout Memorial Day Weekend, is the largest display in Northwest Washington and the fourth largest display in Washington State.

Whatcom County's Annual Festival of FlagsThe Avenue continues to grow as families donate flags. These flags were presented to a deceased veteran's next of kin on behalf of the president of the United States. In turn, the family donates its flag to Moles Greenacres. Each flag is mounted on a flagpole that includes a brass plaque identifying the interred veteran associated with it.
