Las Monjas

Today we drove for nearly two hours to the foothills of the snow capped Sierra Nevada and Granada. Our visit was to the historical Alhambra and Generalife enclosures, beautiful gardens, ancient buildings and ruins and a wonderful view. Having not booked our tickets we had to line up in a very short but time-consuming queue since there was only one ticket desk open and the "tickets reserved" queue alongside was filtered into ours. There was an irritable steward controlling operations.

I chose this photograph as there are many touristy snaps of the Alhambra and it is quite unusual in England to see nuns dressed in their full habits rather than wearing plain dresses and in some cases no headdress at all: in other words lay people's dress. A nun used to visit her twin sister not far from us at home from London and she arrived on a motorbike dressed in black leather. That always brought a smile to our faces!
