Dachau

Went to the Dachau Concentration Camp today, been meaning to for a long time, but guess a large part of me didn't want to experience the horrors.

I've long been aware what happened at these places, and whilst we all know the activities and the numbers; seeing the buildings, the gas chamber, crematoriums, disinfection rooms and the expanse of it all.........Well that large number of people that you know died was actually a LAAAAARRRGGE number. The numbers become tangible.

Whilst I took pictures of the rooms that bore witness to untold pain, I want to follow the principle of the memorial site. Let's not forget the barbarity of the few and the suffering of the millions, nor glorify these events. So just a picture of the entrance, one of the first things the prisoners would have seen. The quote of "Work makes you free ", is such a stab of twisted false logic that you knew you were in for a bad time.
