Home & Away

Lands End

This morning another crew-member and I took an early bus to the coastal side of San Francisco and had breakfast at a place called Louis' Restaurant, the brown building to the left of this picture.  Louis' has been in existence for over 75 yrs, run by 3 generations of the same family.

This area is called Lands End and is part of the National Park Service and the Golden Gate National Recreation Area.  The pools are the remains of the now ruined Sutro Baths which were a large swimming pool complex built in the 19th century, the largest in the world at the time.  You can see Seal Rocks just off the shore.

Off the left of this picture is another famous restaurant called Cliff House which was also originally owned by Adolph Sutro, a former San Francisco Mayor and wealthy entrepreneur.  To the south of that is Ocean Beach, a long stretch of beautiful coastline.  It was a beautiful day for being outside and taking pictures.  We also walked around the Lands End Lookout and were able to get a good view of the Golden Gate Bridge (yesterday's Blip) although there was just enough haze to not get a very clear picture.

It was a treat to spend the morning in such a beautiful place.  This part of California is in the fog zone and when it rolls in, one can barely see across the street, let alone the ocean.  June, July and August are the worst months for fog, so I may not have another chance for awhile to enjoy this type of outing!
