Owakudani, boiling black eggs

Owakudani (the Great Boiling Valley) was formed approximately 3000 years ago as a result of the eruption and subsequent collapse of Kamiyama Mountain. The caldera is 11km in diameter.
Near the top you can experience the foul fumes of Hydrogen Sulphide and Sulphur Dioxide being emitted from the earth. A local delicacy is "black eggs" - these are chicken eggs that are boiled in the sulphurous water, turning the shells pitch black. Apparently if you eat one you extend your life by 7 years, two by 14 years, 3 by 21 years, 4 ... You die.
The guy in the picture is just checking a batch, he works all day in the volcanic fumes putting his gloved hands in the boiling water, hope he gets paid well.
No I didn't have an egg.
