Anatole's blips

Kingsmere

The wet start to the year has resulted in a luxuriant growth of yellow flag at the Kingsmere pond on Wimbledon Common. It has a solitary old tree that manages to survive despite it's feet being pretty much permanently in the water.

This pond lies just next to the Alps of Wimbledon Common. The name is a 'tongue in cheek' reference to two piles of rubble and dirt dug up by the road works to create the A3 Tibbets corner underpass and roundabout. Originally it was going to be flattened or taken away, but as it was quickly colonised by trees and grass they have since become favourite 'climbs' of Wimbledon Common.
