Elephant Hawk Moth

I had the moth trap out in the garden last night for the first time this year, lazy me. The primary school wanted me to show them some moths this morning. Luckily it was a mild midgy night and I got a very good catch. This is one of the more brightly coloured moths in my trap. It is called an elephant hawk moth because the caterpillar looks like an elephants trunk. I love it's big green eye.

It is a fairly big moth and if you want to see a shot of it's top side I have added one to my blipfolio here.. The school made good use of me and I ended up with 4 classes one after the other.

The rest of the day was spent at the funeral of a neighbour who has been ill for some time.
