Redstart

I went for a walk in some woodlands near Oswestry this afternoon. The sun was shining and it was beautiful - green leaves and wild flowers everywhere.

There were lots of birds including a wren family - a parent and a cluster of newly fledged chicks which were quite close.

As we came out of the woods we spotted a pair of redstarts that were taking insects into a hole in a tree. We hid behind a large oak and watched them for some time, they were taking food in with such regularity that I'm sure they'll have a very well fed brood inside. It was great to see them, I've seen redstarts before but never at the nest.
