Hibiscus rosa-sinensis

Hibiscus rosa-sinensis, known colloquially as rose mallow, Chinese hibiscus, China rose and shoe flower, is a species of flowering plant in the family Malvaceae, native to East Asia. It is widely grown as an ornamental plant throughout the tropics and subtropics. As it does not tolerate temperatures below 10 °C (50 °F), in temperate regions it is best grown under glass. However, plants in containers may be placed outside during the summer months or moved into shelter during the winter months

I used to bring my tropical plants inside in the fall when I lived in Connecticut, but here in Florida, I don't have to worry about bringing plants indoors when it gets cold. Sometimes we do need to cover them if the temps drop. The hibiscus shown here is one of 2 fairly new small trees we planted in our front yard. One is this soft pink and one is white. I love this plant/flower! Here's a photo showing more of the whole tree taken 2 months ago. It is amazing how much the tree behind it, a royal poinciana has filled in. The colder winter temps caused most of it's leaves to drop! Now look at it - it is so full in 2 months time!

so amazing.
