Speckled Wood enjoying the Cotinus early this morn

A bit of sunshine makes all the difference. This Speckled Wood was sunning itself and feasting on the tiny flowers of the Cotinus or smoke bush tree this morning. The local swans are sitting on eggs on their magnificent nest in a dyke near the coast and while we have been away the ducks have laid an egg in the garden - but they appear to have abandoned it. We might crack it to see what it is like inside - but I don't think we will be eating it as I don't know when it was laid!
