Whale Shark lecture

The final RGS Monday Night Lecture of the term:

Gentle giants of the Galapagos, by Jonathan Green

Monday 2 June at 6.30pm - RGS-IBG members + one guest

In a beautifully illustrated talk, Jonathan tells how the Galapagos Whale Shark Project is starting to unravel some of the mysteries of the world’s largest shark, but just how do you investigate a 17m long, 20 ton fish?

-----------------------------

Fascinating talk about the biology and conservation of the biggest fish in the sea.

There is just so much we still don't know about this threatened majestic species!

But ongoing efforts are stating to uncover some of their mysteries, like that they sometimes dive to depths of at least 2,000m where the genitor could be as low as 3'C, or that evidence suggests females may give birth to as many as 300 live young!

All amazing stuff about an animal that has been living across the world's oceans since the age if the dinosaurs.
