Change of use

I always love houses that have an interesting history, especially if they have been used for different purposes. Apparently my own house was once a shop (I know people who used to shop here), which explains some of its more eccentric features!

The gradual move of businesses and services from small towns and villages to larger urban areas means that there are more houses that were once pubs, shops or other business premises. This picture is of a house in Market Weighton that was originally a police station, being turned into a house in 1903.
