Morning has broken

This is one of my favourite walks with our dogs although it is not without dramatic memories. About a year ago we walked this path on a cold winter evening with three dogs, our two and my brother's dog, Indy (a large Huntaway collie). After throwing the ball for about 15 minutes, fighting against the bitterly cold wind, we realised that Indy was no longer with us. We shouted and shouted with no luck. He seemed to have disappeared into thin air. Finally, we heard a thin whimper appearing to come from the bottom of the cliffs you can see in the image. My brother, who used to be a climber, started the treacherous descent to try and find his much loved pet but soon realised it was impossible. He therefore called 999 and, surprisingly, a fire engine and 4 hulking firefighters arrived in less than 5 minutes. In no time men on ropes started the descent down the cliffs and found Indy hanging by a thread of his collar on a tree branch over a sheer drop. Five minutes later he would have plummeted to his death. He was retrieved with hardly a scratch. It was an absolutely amazing response from the fire service and, I must say I was surprised. It did seem like a huge risk to take for a dog, but my brother was just so relieved and grateful to have Indy back safe and well.
