The Dining Hall.

This grand building is Downing College dining hall. The two young men appear to be waiters. The college has a magnificent setting amid 20 acres of lawns and trees, yet is in the centre of Cambridge. The buildings which are predominantly neo-classical, convey a sense of elegance and style, enhanced by graceful columned porticos and delicate pink and yellow stone. A newer college, it was founded in 1800 under the will of Sir George Downing. It is completely different from the enclosed traditional monastic courts of the older colleges and I enjoyed my visit today.
