Sicilians in Stirling

An unexpected treat this afternoon was this Italian food stall in the centre of our local shopping mall in Stirling.

What’s more they offered free samples to everyone who showed the slightest interest in their produce from olives to marshmallows, nuts and pasta.

The young men running it are from Sicily and Milan and they tour the country with their produce. They will be here for a few more days only, which is a shame.

Many Italians arrived in Scotland after the First World War in search of a better life and they have been credited with turning around Scottish cuisine.

So they know they will always get a warm welcome north of the Border where Italian food is much loved.
