Port Allen

Port Allen, on the south side of the River Tay, just upstream of Errol, was once the main port for the area. Coal and lime were landed here and agricultural produce from the rich Carse of Gowrie was exported. Today, some signs of the old harbour still exist, but the reeds and bullrushes are the main feature, and there is talk of reinstating cutting the rushes for roofing.
