John Rae - discovered to the North West Passage

2 weeks ago I was in Orkney and while in Stromness we were given a tour of the town with the history of Dr John Rae in the town and in the Museum. John was an eminent Arctic explorer born in the town. He is remembered by a statue in Stromness and a large monument in St Magnus Cathedral in Kirkwall. This is a panel of the Scottish Diaspora Tapestry on show at the 3 Harbours Art Festival. The exhibition will go on tour visiting Stirling, Edinburgh, Paisley & Inverness - check out the website.
