'Alae 'ula

Mama 'Alae 'ula, on the right, is teaching her chick how to catch mollusks.

The 'Alae 'ula is known as the most secretive waterbird, so I felt very fortunate to see two adults and two chicks. I was told that they are endangered, with only 500 in existence. Maybe now there are 502! :)
