Anniversary of D Day:

Thoughts linger on those in The Armed Forces.

I was only a teenager through the years of the second world war but I was later to marry a man who had served as a Corporal in the Tanks Corps. He told me how proficient he had been in manoeuvering a tank He had come out of the war with a disability and a war pension.

The marriage lasted only a few years, but I am left with a wonderful daughter. The only other memorabilia I have is a trophy he won at Grammar School for sports and a couple of pictures. This is a damaged one his sister gave me of him in his uniform. She was in the habit of stupidly carefully cutting around portraits!

Although he survived the war, he died relatively young, at 65 in 1981.
