St James's, Clerkenwell Green, London

Clerkenwell was a village outside of London until the Industrial Revolution changed it in to an area famed for its printing, distilleries and watch-making.

St James's church was built in 1792 and is on Clerkenwell Green.

Clerkenwell has always been associated with radicalism and rebellion. Oliver Cromwell had a house on the Green, and both the Lollards (Church reformers) and Chartists (more rights for workers) had significant support in the area.

Vladimir Lenin lived in Clerkenwell in the early years of the 20th century and he and Joseph Stalin met for a pint at The Crown Tavern on the Green. Great scene.

Katie Melua's video Two Bare Feet was filmed in the church crypt.
