Lozarhythm Of The Day:
Dana Gillespie - You Just Gotta Know My Mind (1967)
Dana Gillespie was discovered singing at the Marquee by Donovan, who played on her 1st single, Donna Donna, and also had a hand in this record. It was a song he wrote in 1965 and was recorded by Karen Verros for the Dot label in America the same year. Dana's was recorded in 1967, and first appeared on her US album, Foolish Seasons, and then in the UK on a Decca single in 1968. Mike Vickers (from Manfred Mann) was the musical director and Jimmy Page plays guitar on the record. Donovan never released the song himself, but Swedish group Steampacket also did a version. As far as I know, none of these versions was ever a hit.
This record is included on The Rebel Kind: Girls With Guitars 3, although I think Dana Gillespie was a girl without a guitar, a 24-track CD of goodies that was a birthday present for me this year.
