This Week it was Open!

Saturday last we detoured on the way home from Cwmbran to make a return visit to the SS Great Britain at Bristol with the aim of looking at the Brunel Institute, and it was closed.

So once again the detour and this time it was open! We had a personal guided tour, it’s not very big but it’s cram packed with engineering history, in particular marine engineering.

Mrs W has done a bit of a write-up so take a look there for more details.

There were quite a few models of ships that I photographed, but the brilliant old engineering book dating back from the 1700’s combined too of my greatest passions – old books and engineering. “Britain's Glory: or Ship-Building Unvail'd, 1717” was currently being researched by our guide so was on display. It is a second edition and is worth a kings ransom. I was allowed to photograph, but NO flash!!
