Bore Stane

Heading up from the great looking hardy trees just above the Bore Stane.

Headed from Carlops on a circuit of North Esk Reservoir. All skinned up Spittal Hill, then two went bare down. Skins again for Cock Hill (i tried wax but too steep), and then a great descent for all down to the Stane. One set of skins went back on due to downhill wax on skis, and we eventually hit the road, which gave more consistent skiing. Had a chat with the guy in Fairlieburn, who recalled skiing across the reservoir years ago. Then skiied past the cars stuck on the road and back down to Carlops - skied right to the 702, and had to have a quick pint in the Alan Ramsey.

Googled Bore Staneand it appears the actual stane (with a hole for a flag bored in it) is now mounted in the wall of Morningside church!

I was supposed to be seeing if their was a path for a mountain bike over east and west craig hills but all was obscured. We saw folk nearer carlops but no footprints in this remote central area - remote even though we could see Corstorphine Hill and Forth Bridge.
