Amphibious

Today was the day for getting out if the city and experiencing some if the amenities available to Berlin city dwellers. We went to Wannsee, getting the S-Bahn out there and then a ferry across the lake to a place called Kladow, a lovely spot on the lake shore where we spent a lazy few hours eluding in a shaded beer garden. It was really hot (something around 34° C), which made the shade very welcome.

We were just sitting around, eating and drinking and watching ferries and boats and yachts coming and going, when suddenly we saw a group of amphibious cars appear. They came out of the water and parked right outside where we were, five or six of them in different colours and shapes. The folk inside them came in to our beer garden to take a break, and perhaps just to make the rest of us a little bit jealous. They sure looked fun to be in, and we would have been more than happy to give one a try.

Back in the city Carl and I turned our attention to an evening meal. Carl did the research and found us a lovely little place close to home that offered Austrian and Hungarian cuisines, reasonably priced and very enjoyable — all the more so for being served in the open air on the pavement on a beautiful balmy evening. All in all, a really good and relaxing day.
