Life's tangled skein

Hustings!

MY local newspaper - that Falkirk Herald - held a meeting in Falkirk town centre today to discuss the forthcoming Scottish independence referendum. An interesting, although all left-of-centre panel of speakers consisted of our local MP Michael Connarty and Labour candidate Karen Whitfield on the "no" side, with the "yes" campaign being represented by Clare Adamson of the SNP and Patrick Harvie of the Greens.

To be fair, I don't think I learned a lot - most of what was said has been said many times before. To my surprise, the speaker with whom I agreed most often was the Green Party's representative - well, at least until he started pushing his party political (as compared to Independence referendum) agenda

The debate was held in the Trinity Church, Falkirk. It is a building which has recently been rather beautifully refurbished, but can trace its history back to the Battle of Falkirk in 1298 and beyond.

A suitable site for an important national discussion!
