Different class...

Early 90s in the UK. Britpop. Who do you like best - Blur or Oasis? Neither - I always preferred Pulp.

For me, Jarvis was the perfect frontman. Geeky, skinny, Clark Kentesque, witty, intelligent and pathetic - but in a charming way I always thought.

And boy, did they write some classics. Songs from inside the head of someone who often seemed to be on the outside, looking in.

I spent this evening in the company of Pulp, beamed into the Glasgow Film Theatre from Sheffield City Hall. Their documentary - Life, Death and Supermarkets - was premiered in Sheffield but also shown in 120 cinemas across the UK. Like Glasgow, those cinemas, full of Pulp fans, would've enjoyed a film that celebrates Pulp the people, Pulp the band and their music and celebrates the real stars of the show, the Common People of Sheffield.

Go see it if you can. Pulp, like their album title suggests, really are Different Class.

Common People like us
