Today's action: Another lucky escape

Things can go terribly wrong, but then outcomes may differ totally. Driving down the road and keeping your car safely on it seems so easy. Still often, for whatever reason, drivers lose control and cars come off the road in single car accidents.

If that happens on a bridge crossing a canal then more dangers are to be considered, like in this case, when a car hit a bridge railing. After hitting the railing the car flipped on its roof after being catapulted back into the road. Calls were made to get the emergency services to the scene and police, ambulance and fire services were quick to respond. With a crash like this the worst can be expected. But fortunately the driver, who was alone in the car, was able to get out by himself and after having been checked in the ambulance was given the clear.

But that got me thinking. What if the car had hit the bridge railing slightly differently and was catapulted to the right instead of to the left. In that case the car would not have landed in the road, but on its roof in the canal. Chances to walk away from that would have been far less and the work required by the emergency services would have been completely different. I think this was another lucky escape.
