Work in Progress

At long last the work involved in constructing our kitchen roof is moving forward more speedily. Today’s picture is of the workers welding the seam between the roof plates to make the structure waterproof. Looking back over old photographs of this house, it is apparent that this part of the house was not added in the late sixties, as we had previous been told, but in the late thirties and was, in fact, reasonably well built. It was the work that was done in the late sixties, by the previous owner, to re-roof this part of the house and brick up the original back door, which was a complete and utter botch, necessitating our current rebuilding programme. However, having said this it is worth pointing out that the builders in the early eighteen hundreds, who built the original house managed to keep the walls straight and at right-angles to each other, whilst those who added the extension to the kitchen in the thirties, did not manage to achieve this, no two walls are straight or at right-angles! I hope that our re-building project is as good as that which was done two-hundred years ago and that our work in progress will eventually be fully in keeping with the original structure, even though modern techniques have been used.

Florence has back-blipped for yesterday.
