The RNI

It stands for 'Royal Northern Infirmary', the first modern hospital in the town of Inverness. The main Georgian building now houses the headquarters of UHI - the University of the Highlands and Islands. I used to work at the RNI and often gazed on that commemorative plaque, which reads:

'SUPPORTED BY PAROCHIAL & INDIVIDUAL CONTRIBUTIONS. OPENED 1803.'
