The other side of the finish line

Once the walkers began, we had a quick sandwich and checked in with the leader for our next two shifts. First finish line task was to convert the fencing from start formation to finish. Then began the clean up. The whole site was completely waterlogged and walkers had been advised to put bags on their shoes to keep them dry until they started. So, just outside the start line was a sea of plastic bags, discarded, dumped, strewn in drifts across the path and they all needed bagged up for the rubbish. We even found a few pairs of trainers discarded too!

From there we were on to medal set up and not long after, the first half mooner was crossing the finish line. We rotated tasks which included, cheering and directing, giving medals and tearing off the little number on their big number. Most of our night was spent bent over, tearing!

This shot was taken when the first of the full mooners were beginning to arrive. Most of the first wave of arrivals were taking part in "over the moon". They arrived, received their medals, had a bite to eat and headed out to do the whole thing again!

I've crossed a Moonwalk finish line 6 times now. I only have vague recollections of that moment, a medal, photo, stopping whilst someone did something. It was really nice to see the other side of the experience and see what actually happens as the exhausted walkers stagger in.
