No, it's not the name of my research assistant, it's the abbreviation for Enzyme Linked ImmunoSorbant Assay, a colorimetric test using antibodies to identify and measure a substance.

You're looking at microwells attached to a plate, each well contains a quantitative reaction between an antibody and the substance, the intensity of the color developing is proportional to the amount of substance reacting.
