Newlands Corner

More physio for this wretched tennis elbow this morning - it is taking a very long time to improve and there will be weeks of sessions still. The acupuncture is helping although today when the needle hit the pressure spot I nearly leapt off the bed...not a pleasant way to start the day.

Another hot and beautiful day today. I fetched Thomas early from school to take him to the master class with Crispian Steele-Perkins. He was very excited about this opportunity. I was invited to stay and listen but as much as I wanted a photo of Mr Steele-Perkins and Thomas it did not seem appropriate to be snapping away with my camera.

On the way home I went over Newlands Corner, which is one of the more acclaimed beautiful spots in Surrey It has some of the best views of the Surrey Hills, and lies on the North Downs Way.

Newlands Corner was a key location in the crime writer Agatha Christie's disappearance in December 1926. Her car was found in a bush overhanging a chalk pit at Newlands Corner, at the bottom of the south side of the hill. She was found some days later having checked in under an alias at a hotel in Harrogate. As a result, Newlands Corner is the setting of the climax of the final scene of the Doctor Who episode "The Unicorn and the Wasp".

It is difficult to capture the views as there are overgrown trees blocking the view from the top of the ridge.
