Summer Outing.

Gordon Allan NTS volunteer at the Burns Memorial Garden Centre, Alloway is a fund of information on everything from gardens and plants to photography and local planning issues.

Gordon was today working in the nursery shop among the colourful and fragrant display of home grown plants.

The occasion was the annual summer outing of The Hamilton Burns Club to Alloway and a guided tour of the Burn's museum.

There followed a visit to Alloway Parish Church where an exuberant Rev Neil McNaught related the fascinating history of the parish and the building of the present church in 1858.

The church is a treasure trove of stained glass with each window dedicated in memorium.

The saddest memorial is the magnificent floral pattern glass on the west gable dedicated to Charlotte Lockhart Baird wife of James Baird, steel founder and church benefactor. Charlotte laid the foundation stone for the kirk and hers was unfortunately the first stone in the graveyard.
