An Uninspiring View

As the GOG is in hospital I will be updating his journal for him.

The day started when I took him to Addenbrookes hospital so that they could tidy up the bowel and all its plumbing after the emergency surgery, which they did in a hurry last September and which saved his life. The operation today was planned some weeks ago, so no dash to A and E through the night!

We were in the hospital by 0630 hours and after a wait he was given a ‘bedroom’ at 1030 hours. Today’s picture is the view from the window, hence the title. Then at 1400 hours he went to theatre. I am told the operation, which took four hours, went as planned. He is being kept in Post-operative Care - Overnight Intensive Recovery, which is part of the main theatre suite. This gives one-to-one care similar to the Intensive Care Unit; he is being kept there due to the nature of his on-going medical problems. Depending on how he is in the morning they will ether move him to a high dependency ward or, more likely to a ‘normal’ ward.

I saw him for half-an-hour afterwards, he was awake and all his ‘obs’ were normal. He said he was okay except his abdomen was sore; what did he expect? He was also asking for coffee, but that is not likely to happen until tomorrow.

Update 2100 hours - The GOG has just phoned me, he has already been given a cup of coffee!
