Something missing

I like this image as much for what's missing as what's there.

This is a great tree, very healthy, full of a range of colors and shapes. But this portion of this branch evidently appealed to a bug or two, who ate these interesting holes in it. (I don't know what kind of tree this is; it grows in the park near us, with a couple of others like it. If you know trees, you can see the seeds and such here.
