Go fun yourself

Something has been lost in translation here. This is the slogan that Japanese car firm Toyota is using to launch its new Aygo. Er, yes. We're here in Rotterdam to drive the new car, but today's test route was almost entirely on motorways, devoid of hills and with hardly a bend all afternoon. Tomorrow I'm going in search of a few corners to find out how well it goes round them.

The Aygo is one of a trio of cars - the others are the Citroen C1 and Peugeot 108 - that all come from the same factory and are all essentially the same model, with cosmetic differences and changed badges. The baby Toyota is the best looker of the three, with its distinctive X design front. It sounds great too, with a characterful throaty roar from its perky little three-cylinder engine.

It's years since I was last in Rotterdam, and it's a bit of a revelation, with its mixture of classic and edgy modern buildings and its dramatic river bridge right outside my hotel room window. That may well be tomorrow's blip, if I don't choke on that ghastly slogan in the meantime.
